Chhath Puja is one of the most sacred, ancient, and spiritually rigorous festivals of India, rooted in the Vedic tradition of worshipping the Sun God (Surya) and Chhathi Maiya (Goddess Usha and Pratyusha). Spanning four days of pure austere devotion—Nahay-Khay, Kharna, Sandhya Arghya, and Usha Arghya—devotees observe a strict Nirjala (waterless) fast to express deep gratitude for sustaining cosmic life.
From preparing sanctified Thekua prasad on traditional clay chulhas to standing waist-deep in sacred rivers with winnows (soop) bearing fruits and sugarcane, Chhath is the only festival honoring both the setting sun (acknowledging completion) and rising sun (celebrating renewal).
